News Letter

The 2003-2004 Scouting Year is upon us.  Pack 175 is in desperate need of leaders or other persons to help organize activities and events for our scouts. It doesn't matter how much you do since every effort, no matter how large or small, will help us to have a successful year for the boys.

We would like to welcome everyone to Cub Scout Pack 175.  We have lots of great events planned for the upcoming year and we're sure everyone will have lots of fun and maybe even learn a few things along the way.

SIGNUPS:  The cost for scouting this year will be $20 per Scout for the year.  For an additional $10.80 per year the Scout can signup to receive Boys Life magazine.   For families with multiples scouts joining the initial signup cost for all scouts after the first is $16 per year.  Boys Life magazine is still an additional $10.80 per year per Scout.

UNIFORMS:  We would like every scout to have at least the basic uniforms by the October Pack meeting.  This consist of a shirt, hat, and neckerchief appropriate to rank the scout is in.  A neckerchief slide is recommended but not mandatory.  Pants and a scout belt are optional.  You will need the Northeastern PA council badge and our Pack number (175) on the sleeve of your shirt.  We understand that these items can be costly, but if you look around you can sometimes get a uniform from an older scout who has moved to Boy Scouts.  This is acceptable as long as the correct Council and Pack badges are used.  Also keep in mind that the same shirt can be worn from Wolf to Webelos so buy one that your son can grow into.

BOYS LIFE MAGAZINE:  You will be offered a subscription to Boys Life Magazine at sign-ups.  I highly recommend this magazine for every scout.  It is filled with great stories about scouting and life in general and has sections devoted to every age level.  The cost of the magazine is $10.80, which we collect at sign-ups.  Please be advised that if you elect to subscribe to this magazine the first magazine will not arrive until around January or February but it will continue for one year.

DEN MEETINGS:  Den meetings are usually held once a week or as often as the leader feels is necessary.  Parents are welcome to stay for these meetings and help the leaders whenever they can.  Parents do not have to be present at Den meetings however they are expected to drop off and pick up their boys at the correct times.  Please remember that our leaders are busy too and this is not a baby sitting service.

PACK MEETINGS:  Pack meetings are held once a month on the last Friday of the month unless otherwise advised.  The Pack has planned its events well in advance.  All these events are posted onto our web site under the Pack Announcements  page.  ( www.FactoryvillePack175.com )  All family members are welcome at these meetings and all our special events.  A parent or other adult must be present at all Pack meetings and special events.  Regular Pack meetings are held at the Factoryville Baptist Church at 7:00 p.m. unless otherwise informed.

COMMITTEE MEETINGS:  Committee meetings are held once a month the Sunday before the Pack meeting unless otherwise posted.  These meetings will be held at 7:00 p.m. at one of the committee members homes.  These meetings are vital to the running of our Pack.  This is when we all plan all of our special events and regular monthly Pack meetings.  We need the help of as many parents as we can get to make this Pack run smoothly.  We will need people to chair committees for fund raising, trips, Blue & Gold, etc.  Our leaders dedicate a lot of time every week to their dens, we could use help running the rest of the program.

If you have any special talents you could share with any of our dens, or an interesting place to take them on a field trip please contact me at via email at cubmaster@factoryvillepack175.com or phone at 570-945-5976.

LEADERS:

Happy Scouting!
